The Secrets of the 1941 Green Ticket Roundup

By

Virginie Linhart

Few people know that before the infamous Vel d’Hiv Roundup, the French government committed other similar raids. The first one, the ‘Green Ticket Roundup’ perpetrated in 1941, was a turning point in the deportation of Jews during WWII. 80 years after, this largely forgotten event resurfaces, as a hundred photos taken by the German propaganda services have just been found. Looking back at this dark day, during which 3,700 Jews were arrested before being transferred to Auschwitz camp, this investigation will reveal the origin of these images. How were these pictures, the only ones showing the roundups, discovered? Who is their renowned photographer?
