Pop art & Co

By

Renan Pollès

In the sixties, Europe and the United States entered an era of great economic prosperity. Along with this newfound prosperity came a new iconography built around television, film and advertising which remodel modern western society.

This new iconography brought to the fore images directly borrowed from society: objects, female symbol, film stars, mass media and politics, among others.

Rich in archives, happenings, films by artists and original footage, this documentary is based upon interviews : Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and James Rosenquist (USA), Richard Hamilton, Allen Jones and Peter Blake (UK), Arman, Martial Raysse, Jacques Monory and Alain Jacquet (France) and Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter and Peter Klasen (Germany).
