3 César Awards for Sébastien Lifshitz’s documentary ADOLESCENTES
For the second time, Sébastien Lifshitz won the Best Documentary César Award after Les Invisibles in 2013. Adolescentes, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival 2019, offers a rare portrait of France and its recent history through the personal stories of two teenage girls, Emma and Anaïs. The film also earned Best Sound (Yolande Decarsin, Jeanne Delplancq, Fanny Martin & Olivier Goinard) and Best Editing (Tina Baz).
Sami Bouajila once again rewarded for its performance in A SON
After winning the Orizzonti Award for Best Actor at the 76th Venice International Film Festival, Sami Bouajila won Best Actor at the César Awards 2021. A Son is the first film directed by Mehdi M. Barsaoui and tells the story of Fares and Meriem who see their 10-year old son accidentally shot in an ambush. His injury will lead to the discovery of a long-buried secret.
Best Animation Film for JOSEP
Josep which was selected at Cannes 2020 won Best Animation Film at the César Awards 2021. The film traces the life of Josep Bartoli, an illustrator who fought against Franco’s regime during the Spanish civil war. Aurel was also awarded the Louis Delluc Prize and Best Documentary at the European Film Awards.
Best First Feature for TWO OF US
The already multi-awarded Two of Us directed by Filippo Meneghetti won Best First Feature, a crowning achievement after travelling in more than 50 international film festivals where it won more than 20 awards. The film tells the story of Nina (Barbara Sukowa) and Madeleine (Martine Chevallier), two retired women who have been secretly deeply in love for decades.
